We are delighted to introduce you to Mr Ahmed R. Ahmed, Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon, member of the team at 108 Medical Chambers team at 108 Harley Street.
What is your speciality?
I am a Consultant Laparoscopic Surgeon specializing in weight loss / bariatric surgery and also in keyhole surgery for abdominal conditions like hernias, gallstones, acid reflux and emergencies.
Where are you based?
I am the Surgical Director at The London Weight Clinic. I consult privately at 108 Harley Street. My NHS post is at Imperial College London, St Mary’s Hospital
What is your availability?
I see patients routinely on Fridays at 108 Harley Street. I am also available at other times as required. Patients can also be seen by my colleagues within the team depending upon their requirements. Our on-site imaging means that patients with an abdominal problem can routinely be seen by a Consultant and then have their imaging and investigations at the same visit without delay.
What is your experience of Arab patients?
I have extensive experience of treating patients from the Middle East. These patients are either routinely referred by the Embassy Health Offices or via a network of other Doctors. I also regularly visit Kuwait and the UAE where as well as lecturing, I work with the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in Abu Dhabi. I also provide all my Arabic patients with written information in Arabic as well as have in my team fluent Arabic speaking colleagues.
How successful are the treatments?
With regards to weight loss, the London Weight Clinic utilizes the very best physicians, anaesthetists, dieticians, psychiatrists. This team approach with the best of the best ensures that we provide the highest quality care and surgery with the most safety. I have personally performed over 4,000 laparoscopic bariatric operations with no deaths and no conversions to open surgery. My complication rate is amongst the lowest seen and our weight loss results are amongst the best. It is for this reason that our team carries designation as an ‘International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery’.
Another marker for our success comes from patient satisfaction and the high level of patients who recommend my services and those of The London Weight Clinic to others. The continued referral from the Health Offices also indicates that I am providing a service that they are happy with for their national citizens.
The advice as always is don’t leave it too late. The earlier you treat weight problems, hernias, gallstones, or in fact for that matter any disease, the easier the treatment is and the greater are the likely benefits. A great example is type diabetes which bariatric surgery can CURE if caught soon enough (ideally less than 2 years before diagnosis).
