News | Faith, Reform and Hope, themes of the 29th Annual Meeting of France’s Muslims
The Union of Islamic Organizations of France (UOIF) strived over 29 years to organize an annual meeting known as the Annual Meeting of France’s Muslims. The Meeting used to attract few hundreds when it was first launched in 1984 but developed to attract more than 150 thousand participants last year.
This year, the Meeting was launched last weekend from 6 to 9 April 2012 where thousands of people from across the country flocked to Paris’s northern suburb Le Bourget over four days to meet in a friendly ambiance with the motto: Faith, Reform and Hope. More than 200 organizations from all over France took part in the four-day event.
The Meeting hosted speakers from the mostly renowned international figures who delivered speeches. Participants also attended its four days of debates, cultural events, and trade show and, for the first time ever, youth pavilion. For the Annual Meeting of France’s Muslims is considered a crucial event in the life of the Muslim community in France and neighbouring countries: Belgium, Britain, Germany and the Netherlands.
Speakers included Sheikh Omar Abdulkafi, Tariq Ramadan, Sheikh Abdullah Ibn Ali Basfar, Tawakul Karman.
France is home to some six to seven million Muslims (as estimated), the largest Muslim minority in Europe.
